A ceramic speaking horn releases a soft ribbon of sound, while its shadow bends out of alignment.

A beautiful voice can make a broken AI agent harder to spot.

Try ChatGPT Voice: you can interrupt, ask follow-up questions, and steer work aloud. Gemini Live brings your camera or screen into the conversation. On the business side, ElevenLabs says its ElevenAgents platform powers Klarna’s first-line US phone support.

These products make voice AI feel tangible. You hear the pauses, the warmth, the apparent understanding. It is easy to mistake that experience for proof that the system works.

Now imagine a scheduling agent that politely repeats your corrected appointment time—and saves the original time anyway. The voice is excellent. The service has failed.

For an AI trainer, that gap is worth understanding. Some projects need your voice. Others need your ear. Others need your judgment about whether a conversation produced the right result. Preparing for the wrong category can waste an application before it starts.

Voice AI training covers several different jobs: recording speech, labeling audio, reviewing generated speech, and evaluating interactive conversations. A voice agent adds another question: did the system complete the intended action correctly?

I reviewed public Mercor, micro1, and RWS listings, official evaluation guides, and worker discussions to separate those expectations. The guide below includes a dated listing snapshot, eight practice scenarios, a scoring rubric, and a complete worked example. It is designed to help you recognize the work before applying—and practice the judgment it requires.
